Good Morning Merritt Families,

We hope this e-mail finds everyone doing well.  Please read through the following information and notes about important upcoming Merritt events and exciting happenings.   

1.  Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Fundraiser (NHS driven) Update!!

The National Honor Society Leukemia and Lymphoma committee would like to thank everyone that contributed to our fundraiser.  As a school Merritt Academy will be donating $6835.24 to LLS.  We crushed our goal this year.  As a result of your generous donations, Merritt Academy is in the top 5% of donating schools in the state of Michigan!

Gold banner classroom winners for donating over $300


And finally, the Olive Garden Lunch competition!

Third place with $423.40 – Falker
Second place with $552.60 – Gimpert
And the winner of the Olive Garden Lunch goes to Gainer’s class with a total donation of $984.31

2.  Wacky Science Assembly-  

Please read the attached flier for more information about an exciting assembly we are bringing to our campus on the afternoon of March 15th.  Parents are invited to attend!  

3.  March is Reading Month Calendar-

Please read through the attached March is Reading Month Calendar.   Followed by numerous other events occurring throughout the month including Wednesday themed dress down days for k-5 students!  

 4.  Re-Enrollment Forms PAST DUE-  Re-enrollment forms for the 2017-2018 school year were handed out at the January parent/teacher conferences.  We have slowly started getting some of these back, but wanted to remind everyone that these were due February 10th.  To secure your child's spot we need to get these forms back on your intentions of sending your child to Merrittnext Fall ASAP.  Attached to this e-mail is the form that needs to be filled out.  Open enrollment is next week and your spot will NOT be held as we have numerous families that will enroll their child(ren) during this time. 

5.   Merritt Middle School Concert Band Shines Once Again-  

The Merritt Academy middle school band competed in the MSBOA festival in Clawson, MI this past weekend.  Another fine performance was turned in by our musicians so the ms band is off to state festival they earned a "1" first division rating!  We couldn't be more proud of Mr. Kimsey and the ms band!  Go Mustangs!

7.  Parent Incentive/Pre School Openings for 2017-2018 School Year-

Please read the attached flier that explains what Merritt parents can do to help our 2017-2018 enrollment and what incentives are attached to doing this.  Also attached is a pre school flier for 2017-2018 and an open enrollment flier for prospective families that includes dates of upcoming parent information meetings and tours.

8.  Merritt Spirit Wear-

Please see the attached flier that explains how you can purchase Merritt Spirit Wear from our on line store. 

9.  NCA Visit-  

Merritt Academy is going through the NCA (National Accreditation Association) process this year to get reaccredited through them on March 15th and 16th. The NCA team will be interviewing administration, teachers, students, and parents along with visiting our classrooms.  They will be convening Wednesday afternoon and all day Thursday to discuss their findings.  I want to invite all of you to be present at the final oral exit report given by the team chairperson.  This meeting will take place in the cafeteria located in the high school from 3:30-4:00 on Thursday, March 16th. 

This will be a very valuable learning experience for all of us.  At this meeting we will listen to the final report of the team’s findings, the strengths and weaknesses of the Academy, and finally if we have earned our reaccreditation.  Please take the time to stop by the cafeteria for this meeting.

If you have any questions please feel free to call the school or stop by the office.   We will announce our reaccreditation status in the days to follow. 

10.   Merritt Academy Blood Drive-

The Merritt Academy Blood Drive will take place on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Parents can make their own appointments through (sponsor code: merrittacademy), call Mrs. Vergos to schedule it for them, and, of course, walk ins are welcome as well. 11.   Merritt Academy Fundraising-

Look for the next fundraiser to be at Texas Roadhouse on Monday, March 13.   Flier attached!!

12.  Merritt Academy Athletics-

Girls Varsity Basketball- Coach Rubio & Coach Gordon have led the girls to the best season in school history! The team went 13-7 overall and went 8-2 in ISAC league play, which was good enough for 2nd place! The team only has 3 seniors and will be gunning for a league championship next year! 

Boys Varsity Basketball- Coach Watt has guided the Varsity boys to a 12-7 record including a 2nd place finish in the league. The boys finish the regular season tonightvs Auburn Hills Christian and then begin district play on Monday at Cardinal Mooney at 6pm. 

Boys JV Basketball- Coach Watt has led the boys JV basketball team to a 6-1 record overall. The boys will finish up their season tonight at 6pm vs Auburn Hills Christian. 

Girls Varsity Cheer- Coach D'Agostin led the varsity cheer squad this season. The ladies did an amazing job cheering on the varsity basketball team and pumping up school spirit! The coach and team also did an amazing job putting together the mini mustang cheer squad! Excellent work ladies! 

Boys Varsity Bowling- Coach Bob & Coach Yvonne did a great job with our bowling team this year. The team got the first bowling WIN in school history and each team member improved drastically from their coaching. The bowling team has a bright future at Merritt Academy! 

Boys 7-8 Basketball- Coach Kaltz led the boys 7-8 team to a 2-10 record this season. The boys learned a lot of valuable skills that will serve them well in HS in the next couple years. 

Boys 5-6 Basketball- Coach Brisson had the boys 5-6 team working hard to learn the fundamentals of the game. The boys finished with a winning record and played a lot of tough competition this year! Great season boys!
