Merritt Academy Latest News

Notes from the Counseling Department

Throughout the school year, I will be providing updates to keep you informed about what is happening in the Counseling Department here at Merritt Academy. Focus will be placed on our Character Education Program and College and Career Prep.  October is a pretty busy month, so please read all this information carefully.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mr. Witkowski at any time.

OCTOBER IS NATIONAL BULLYING PREVENTION MONTH

This month I will be going into classrooms to talk with students about bullying.  Bullying and teasing is an issue that many students will have to deal with in their lifetime. I will define for the students what bullying is and looks like. I will also be discussing with them how to handle if they are getting bullied, or witness another student getting bullied.  My hope is to get students to understand the dangers and consequences that can come from bullying, and to increase positive interactions among students to make Merritt Academy and positive and safe learning environment for all students.

BULLYING AWARENESS DRESS DOWN DAY

Tuesday, October 24th we will have a special dress down day to promote anti-bully month. Since orange is the official color of Anti-Bully month, Students will be allowed to wear jeans and an ORANGE shirt to school this day with the understanding that if they decide to dress down, they are pledging to reduce bullying in their school.  There is no charge to dress down on this day.
