Notes From The Counseling Department

11th Grade SVSU Trip

This past trimester the Junior Class went on a field trip to Saginaw Valley State University. Students were given an extensive tour of the campus, including classrooms, dorms, and various buildings and libraries. They learned about the admission process, scholarships and financial aid, and different aspects about life on campus.

Saginaw Valley State University offers Merritt Academy students an exclusive scholarship every year worth approximately $32,000. Six of our Class of 2018 graduating seniors at Merritt Academy were eligible to receive this scholarship from SVSU this year.

Dual Enrollment

High School students interested in taking Dual Enrollment classes at Macomb Community College in the Fall 2018 need to see Mr. Witkowski for and application. The deadline for this application is June 3rd.

Leap To College

High School Students (Ages 15-18) that are considering college but unsure about what it takes to succeed are invited to a free weeklong summer day camp held at Macomb Community College. These camps will be held June 25-29 or July 9-13 from 9AM-4PM. Registration can be done online at: bit.ly/MacombLeap2018 

CARE of SE Michigan Free Summer Camp Series

CARE is offering two free summer camps this summer, below are the details:

~ CARE Leadership Academy is for students entering 6th-8th grade. Participants will benefit from learning self-empowerment skills, character development, life skills strengthening, and work on a community service project.

~Camp CARE is for students Preschool-12th grade whose loved ones have been touched by a substance abuse disorder. Participants will learn to manage emotions and self-control, cope in healthy ways, and recognize "you're not alone".
