1. School Safety Update

School safety and the well-being of our students and staff is one of the most important priorities we have here each day. This past summer and fall there were numerous trainings with staff and upgrades done on campus to keep ensuring the safety of everyone on campus. Those upgrades and trainings included:

  1. ALICE training for all staff- This past Tuesday our students practiced one of the techniques from ALICE. All classrooms practiced different ways to barricade classroom doors during immediate internal threats. The staff and students did an amazing job securing the classrooms.
  2. 3m window film covering added to glass doors in our high school(Bullet and crack proof glass that will be getting put on all doors in our high school) New , steel doors put on preschool.
  3. Alternative locks put on all classroom doors beyond regular lock
  4. Updated safety plans that include new facilities outside.

2.  School Cancellations

In the event that administration deems it necessary to close school due to snow, ice, extreme cold, or other emergencies notification will be made through the In Touch notification system. This message will be a recorded message from Mr. Seiferlein sent to the contact information that you have provided for us in Powerschool.

Notification will also be made on the following radio and television stations as soon as possible indicating that Merritt Academy in New Haven will be closed. Usually, but not always, if surrounding schools are closed due to weather emergencies, we will also be closed. Every attempt will be made to report cancellations by 6:00 a.m. We appreciate your support as these decisions are sometimes very difficult to make.
