Merritt News 06-08-2020

Hello Merritt Families,

The senior parade on Friday has come and gone.  Wow!  What a great turnout on the parade route from the senior's families and friends!  There must have been more than 300 people out to support them on the night that they were suppose to be graduating from Merritt Academy.

Don't forget Merritt Academy's senior commencement is being planned for Thursday, July 16th.  A start time and how many family members and audience members will be announced very soon, but please plan on that date for sure.  We are waiting to see what kind of social gathering restrictions are going to be in place for indoor and outdoor gatherings in the next few weeks and then we will announce this information.

At the after parade festivities the valedictorian and salutatorians were announced for the class of 2020.  The Co-Salutatorians are Joey Broyles and Jessica Walkowski.  The valedictorian is Sarah Hood.  Please see the attachments to get to know a little bit more about these three young ladies.  We are so proud of them and their accomplishments!

Additionally, the start of school this fall is being planned and a calendar is being worked on.  The first day of school will NOT be September 8th as we originally thought pre-covid.  We are looking at a start date between August 24th to August 31st.  Every school district that has announced a start date for next year and our area has moved up the start date.  An exact date will be announced before the end of June, but we wanted to let our families know for planning purposes what was being discussed and planned.

Finally, as most of you know this is the last week of our remote learning plan.  Please try the best you can to make sure your child(ren) complete the assigned work this week and finish the school year off strong.  Report cards will be mailed home in the weeks to come.

A few key dates coming up in the next two weeks:

June 11th K-5 Wave into Summer 10:00-12:00

We want to make sure that our elementary students and teachers have a chance to say good-bye for the summer.  On Thursday, June 11 from 10 am-12 pm students are invited to come up and say good bye to their teacher this year.  We are calling it "wave into summer".

All the K-5 teachers will be in the elementary parking lot.  Cars will be able to drive by so teachers can hand out yearbooks to those that ordered them and also student of the month shirts from the last few months.

Additionally, if your family has a Chromebook and charger that was signed out back in April from the school please return it on this day.  A staff member will come up to your car and retrieve the Chromebook and charger.

Safety Protocols:

  1. All parents and students must remain in their cars at all times.
  2. Teachers will bring any items to the car for you and get a chance to say good bye to everyone.

We look forward to seeing everyone Thursday!!!

June 15th Middle School Pick Up Personal Items and Drop of Chromebooks 3:00-6:00

** Please read the attached document for more information about these two upcoming days.

I am truly honored to serve as your principal and I am so proud of how our staff, students, and families are working together through this unprecedented time.  I will continue to do my best to keep you informed of pertinent information and Merritt's response and plans to everything happening with the covid-19 pandemic moving forward.
