Merritt Academy's open enrollment for the 2019-2020 school year kicked off back in March during our open enrollment period. However, we are currently still trying to increase the amount of new families for next fall and have two open houses for prospective students and their families this summer.
August 6, 2019 6:00 p.m.
August 13, 2019 6:00 p.m.
How does this affect you? Our best advertisement in recent years is "word of mouth" from our current families. As an incentive for you to tell other families about Merritt Academy we are offering an exciting opportunity. For every student your family refers between now and August 30th your family's name will get put into a drawing for Meijer's gift cards. There will be a drawing next fall for gift cards in the following amounts:
*** Last year the Davis, Wojtoviets, and Kilcoyne families won these gift cards for referring families to Merritt Academy.

Robotics Qualifies to Compete in State Tournament!
The past couple of months the CyberStangs have been very busy! The excitement really started when, after months of planning and building, we had our first district competition March 14-16 in Gull Lake. The competition was fierce, and we initially had some issues with our robot, but after some adjustments and hard work, we were able to fix the problems. We had some challenging matches, and performed really well. The weekend ended with us winning the District Championship! Two weeks later, we competed at Troy Athens High School in our second district competition. We had some tough competition in our matches, but were able to make it to the semi-finals. Although we did not win the competition, we did give it our all until the very end. Due to our performance in both district competitions, we qualified for States. While we have been able to go to States before as a Rookie All Star Team to observe, we've not had the opportunity to show off our amazing skills until this year. We are extremely excited that we qualified, and cannot wait to compete in the State Competition for the first time!
1. Scholastic Book Fair This Week!
The Scholastic Book Fair will be here this week! A preview day for the pk-5th grade will be Tuesday the 12th with the students shopping on the 13th and 14th from 12:00-4:00. Please feel free to stop by after school on Wednesday and Thursday to shop with your child.
1. Special Dress-Down Day Tomorrow
** To clear up any confusion about this added dress-down day the students can still follow the theme of reading month which is Patriotic day, but all students dressing down still need to bring in a minimum of $1.00.
Last week tragedy struck the Merritt family as Stephanie Armstead's husband died unexpectedly. As you can imagine this has totally devastated her family and threw her world upside down. Mrs. Armstead and her son need support in a lot of ways right now, but especially financially. A dress down day to help raise money for her will be on Tuesday, March 5th. If your child(ren) would like to dress down a minimum of $1.00 donation is required. Thanks in advance for helping one of Merritt's best teachers get through this tough time!

1. Snow Day School Plans
As you all are very well aware of we have had an overabundance of school cancellations due to the weather with more potentially coming our way for this week as we are under a winter storm watch for tonight all the way through Wednesday morning. At one point, if Merritt needs to keep canceling school we are going to have to add days back onto the calendar that we were originally scheduled to be off. Merritt Academy has had 8 snow days so far and once we go over 9 we will be required to add hours and days back onto our calendar to make up for this missed time. We are already applying for the 3 additional granted excused days from the State as schools are typically only granted 6 snow days.
